Book Review: “Porsche Sixty Years” by Ted Hunter

A new book on the shelves, “Porsche Sixty Years” by Randy Leffingwell, has been received and its review is very positive.

The book is large, but not huge, easily handled and its layout is excellent as one of the key elements of the book is its full-colored pictures. Mr. Leffingwell has included a large number of photos that are extremely good and are on single pages, not divided by the binding. This aspect makes the photos a real high point, as this book is mostly pictures, high quality pictures. And, the photos are well captioned.

The text is well written. The text seems to add more historic and more internal Porsche thinking and decision-making aspects to previous histories. Although the text was not as easily slowing as books such as Karl Ludvigsen’s tone, but the additional information keeps one reading.

The book goes from pre-Porsche days to the Cayman development and release. The format is similar to previous books with alternating productions and the racing activities of the different eras of the covered 60 years, with ore details of racing technologies being transferred to production cars. The pictures are all new with very interesting and revealing new archival photos.

This book would be a fine addition to any Porsche Library or the first book to begin one.
